A Few Bingo Does And Don'ts

The basics of bingo are pretty simple. Get the right numbers before the other guy and yell bingo. But with so many bingo halls out there, it's good to keep a few other things in mind. As the saying goes, "knowledge is power." You don't want to miss your bingo due to an avoidable error. This episode suggests a few things to keep in mind.

[00:00:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Intro Hello and welcome to the Broke Bingo Addict.

[00:00:12] [SPEAKER_00]: This is a podcast that ventures through the wild and crazy world of bingo.

[00:00:17] [SPEAKER_00]: This is much more than your grandmother's bingo.

[00:00:20] [SPEAKER_00]: My name's Shari and welcome to this week's episode, which as always is for entertainment

[00:00:26] [SPEAKER_00]: purposes only.

[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Hi and welcome to this week's episode of the Broke Bingo Addict.

[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Now for this week's episode, what I'm going to talk about are what I think are some key

[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_00]: do or don'ts when you're playing bingo.

[00:00:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Some of them I know I might have touched on before but I absolutely think all of these

[00:00:42] [SPEAKER_00]: things bear repeating.

[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_00]: They're not in any particular order, just a few things that have come to mind over

[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_00]: the past few weeks that seeming to pop up as things that should be pointed out

[00:00:52] [SPEAKER_00]: to people.

[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_00]: So one of the first things I want to talk about is when you're going to a bingo hall,

[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_00]: particularly when it's a new bingo hall, don't play too many packs.

[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't take on more things than you can handle and I think this is important,

[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_00]: like I said, in a place you've never been before.

[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: A couple places come to mind and obviously the first one would be the bingo club.

[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_00]: It cracks me up.

[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I go to the bingo club and I see people who've never been there before and even

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: there are people who've played bingo a lot.

[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I was one of those people too who think that they can handle several

[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_00]: packs because they've been playing bingo for a while and they think they're

[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_00]: pretty good at it and the bingo club tends to play these little four on

[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_00]: packs and you think, well, that's not a lot.

[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I can handle more than that.

[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of people tend to get three of those packs and I think the average

[00:01:41] [SPEAKER_00]: is generally two but if you haven't been there before or you have no idea

[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_00]: how fast the bingo club can call, okay, it is crazy fast.

[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_00]: For bingo, I think it's only a few seconds, maybe five or six seconds

[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_00]: between each number, maybe not even that long.

[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not honestly sure.

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I just know that it is fast and it cracks me up when I see people,

[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_00]: particularly people who come there, they have no idea what it is.

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_00]: They're coming to the bingo club because they want to play bingo.

[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_00]: They're in town or they've seen it or whatever and they thought,

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_00]: let me go to this bingo place and play bingo and they have

[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_00]: absolutely new idea and they start getting freaked out about how fast it

[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_00]: goes and I'm telling you every single time somebody in that group

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_00]: or that person or whatever goes, slow down and it's like you do not know

[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_00]: where the hell you are.

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: They are not slowing down at the bingo club but outside of the bingo club,

[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I know that even when you go to other places, if you haven't been there

[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_00]: before and you don't know how fast the bingo caller is going to call,

[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_00]: you should really stick with just the basics, maybe one or two packs

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_00]: until you know what the rhythm is at that particular bingo hall because

[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_00]: you're definitely outside of the bingo club, there are places that some

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_00]: of the callers call fast, some of the callers call slow and you just kind

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: of need to know what it is so you don't get overwhelmed.

[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_00]: So you're not missing a bingo because one, you couldn't mark it fast enough

[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: or two, you just got completely lost on what's going on and I think

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_00]: about there are some places that call particularly slow and I like it.

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that Cry Help is a place where they called Reasonably Slow,

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: which by the way is my number one place.

[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_00]: If you're new at playing bingo, my number one recommendation,

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_00]: if you live in the Southern California area is to go to Cry Help Bingo.

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_00]: They have a nice program, they play nice and slow, they have a reasonable

[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_00]: amount of pull tabs and strips so it's a very good place to get started.

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I like to go there anyway, but definitely a good place to get started

[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_00]: if you haven't played bingo before and you're just really not sure

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_00]: of all the kind of things that go on.

[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_00]: So that said, one of the other things with your new person or even

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_00]: again, you're an old player.

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_00]: If you're going to a new place, please don't show up just before they're

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_00]: getting ready to play bingo.

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Like somebody says, oh, I'm going to go to this such and such bingo hall

[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_00]: and the bingo game actually starts at six o'clock.

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't show up at five 30.

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_00]: You have to do things when you go into a bingo hall.

[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: You've got to need to buy your packs.

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_00]: You're going to need to find a place to sit.

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_00]: You got to just figure out the landscape.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_00]: You're going to try to figure out what the program is.

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_00]: What are all the things that they're going to play?

[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Is it going to be more than just your basic bingo or do they have any

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_00]: kind of side games, do they have computers?

[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, you need to find that stuff out.

[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_00]: So it cracks me up when I see people come in at the last minute

[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_00]: and they have no idea.

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_00]: And now are you in a new place and you don't know what's going on,

[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_00]: but now you're behind the game because you have not gotten yourself

[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_00]: prepared for the situation.

[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_00]: You don't know where you're going to sit.

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_00]: You don't know all this other stuff that's going on.

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: So please do yourself a favor, particularly if it's a place that

[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_00]: opens up early.

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of bingo halls or most of the bingo halls that I've

[00:04:45] [SPEAKER_00]: gone to tend to open up at least two hours before they start playing.

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_00]: So if you can and you have the ability to go there early,

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_00]: please do yourself a favor, go there early, get yourself situated

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_00]: so you're nice, relaxed, you're ready to play the game and you're

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_00]: not having to spend the entire next few hours asking people questions.

[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, what's this?

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: What's that?

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: You've taken the time to figure out some of that information.

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_00]: So it's not a problem for you.

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_00]: The other thing I want to mention is do not take more

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_00]: money than you intend to spend.

[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Actually should probably put this one first because this one's a biggie.

[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Big O is so expensive sometimes.

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, there are a lot of places again, I think cry help

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_00]: is a reasonable place where you don't end up spending too much money,

[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_00]: but there's so many places that could take every last dive.

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_00]: And I can't say for everybody, but I do know for the majority of people,

[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_00]: the pool tabs or the flash or the safari, whatever you want to call them

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: are incredibly addicting.

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_00]: So you get there and you think, oh no, I'm only going to spend this much money.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I've taken out enough money for my buy-in.

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I've taken out enough money to buy a few tabs or play a few extra games.

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_00]: And you get there and you get into the moment, you get into the momentum

[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_00]: and they start bringing out more things for you to do, you know,

[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_00]: more pool tabs or flash, whatever.

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_00]: And you just think, OK, I like that game or I might win that game,

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_00]: whatever it is that that gambling instinct inside you gets you

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_00]: to the point where you want to spend more money.

[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_00]: And trust me, that bingo hall is going to let you spend more money.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have a little ATM thing

[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_00]: where they can give it to you right there at your seat

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_00]: or they're going to have a machine somewhere where you can go get it.

[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_00]: You are going to be able to get more money.

[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_00]: So my thought about that is always just take the amount of money

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_00]: that you want to spend.

[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And then if you have a credit card or if you have extra money,

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_00]: leave that at home so you make sure you don't go over your budget.

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's hard.

[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_00]: It is so, so hard not to get swept up

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: and spending more money than you want to spend.

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_00]: But trust me, in the long run, it pays off.

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_00]: The other thing, don't let other people intimidate you.

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_00]: OK, I say this because I think about the times when people call bingo,

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_00]: whether you're new to the game of bingo

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_00]: or whether you're a longtime bingo player.

[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I think about all the times when somebody has called bingo

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_00]: and when they showed up on the screen, they say, oh, no bingo.

[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_00]: And the person is kind of adamant.

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: No, I definitely do have bingo.

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And people start getting mad because it's taking a long time

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: to kind of verify it and they don't see it.

[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, you know, move on, move on, move on.

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't get intimidated because sometimes you're right.

[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of times you're looking at your screen

[00:07:26] [SPEAKER_00]: and it looks like you don't have the bingo,

[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_00]: but you don't realize that there was a number previously,

[00:07:31] [SPEAKER_00]: not necessarily the last number that was called.

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_00]: But previously, somewhere in the game,

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_00]: there was a number that was called, say, G52.

[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_00]: OK, and that was part of your bingo.

[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_00]: And people are like, you don't have it, you don't have it.

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_00]: But you realize that G52 actually was called.

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_00]: But the bingo caller either put the number in the wrong slot

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_00]: or didn't push it down or whatever.

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_00]: And you need to take the time just to verify that if you're pretty sure

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_00]: and make sure that that's not what the situation was.

[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_00]: So I know people get irritated, I get irritated too.

[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_00]: But I'd rather have people be ticked at me than to lose money

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_00]: because somebody else made an error.

[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, going along that same thought process,

[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_00]: you want to make sure that you're doing everything you can

[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_00]: to make sure that you have a valid bingo.

[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_00]: So you need to make sure that you know the rules

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_00]: of whatever the bingo hall is that you're playing at.

[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Because I know there are a lot of places that have particular rules

[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_00]: about how you have to mark things.

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And I know I've absolutely mentioned this before,

[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_00]: but some places allow you to use a pen.

[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Some places allow you to not dab at all.

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I've seen places where you don't have to mark anything

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_00]: as long as you know what have it.

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Most places require you to use a dauber.

[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_00]: OK, but whatever it is,

[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_00]: you need to make sure that you know the rules of the place.

[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Because like I said, I have mentioned this before.

[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I was playing at the bingo club and they have a game

[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_00]: that's a large letter X, OK?

[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_00]: It's on that little four card pack that you have.

[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_00]: You have to make an X that goes all the way across both sides.

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's kind of hard to see visually.

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's just you get confused.

[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_00]: At least I would get confused.

[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_00]: So what I would do is I would take a pen

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_00]: and I would draw the X across the page.

[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And I did that so many times.

[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I cannot tell you how often I did that.

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Whenever I played the game, that's what I did.

[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I would draw that X.

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Luckily, as it turned out, I never won that game.

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_00]: But at one point, somebody was sitting next to me

[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_00]: and they said, the bingo club does not allow you to do that.

[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_00]: You can do it with a dauber.

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Like you can use the edge of your dauber and make that line.

[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_00]: But you cannot do it with a pen.

[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Again, I have no idea what the reason behind that was.

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Somebody said that there was something about cheating somehow

[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_00]: that you could do with the pen.

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Again, I don't know how that works.

[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_00]: But for whatever reason, you could do it with the dauber.

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_00]: You couldn't do it with a pen.

[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_00]: So you need to find that kind of stuff out before you go there.

[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Again, the same thing.

[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, a lot of people let you use your pen for your pool tabs.

[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of people say no, you absolutely have to daub that.

[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_00]: So you don't want to lose your money.

[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to lose your bingo over some kind of misunderstanding

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_00]: of that level.

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Another thing that kind of happened to me recently, too,

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_00]: is I want people to be aware of this.

[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_00]: And they say it all the time.

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_00]: So this is not a secret.

[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Do not assume that the bingo caller hears you when you say bingo.

[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I was again playing someplace a few weeks ago.

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_00]: And I won.

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And I thought I was pretty loud with my little bingo

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_00]: because I get excited.

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't win that often that I don't get excited

[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_00]: and try to yell as loud as I possibly can.

[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_00]: But I wasn't the only person that won.

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_00]: So they did stop the game.

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But then they went over to somebody else on the other side of the room

[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_00]: and they start reading the numbers.

[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And the bingo caller was like, is there anybody else?

[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_00]: And I got up again.

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, bingo.

[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_00]: But then there was another person.

[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_00]: So they went over to that other person

[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and they start reading the numbers for that person

[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_00]: and verifying that they won.

[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_00]: And again, the bingo caller goes, is there anybody else?

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I had to literally get up and go over to the verify and go, yes.

[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_00]: So for like the rest of the night, I was like,

[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to get up and stand up because for whatever reason,

[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I'm particularly quiet,

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_00]: but for whatever reason, they couldn't hear me.

[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_00]: All the people around me were very surprised, too.

[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_00]: But it can happen.

[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to lose your bingo because they didn't hear you.

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_00]: If you have a soft voice and you know you have a soft voice,

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_00]: then you need to get one of those little horns or something

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_00]: or make sure the people around you can call for you.

[00:11:25] [SPEAKER_00]: But you don't want to lose your bingo because of the mere fact

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_00]: that they don't hear you.

[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_00]: And they say that all the time.

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_00]: They've got those machines right there.

[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I've never sat up on the counter or anything,

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_00]: but they say those balls are really, really loud.

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes it's hard for them to hear.

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_00]: But I still don't want to lose my bingo.

[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_00]: So you should absolutely hop up and make sure that they hear your bingo.

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_00]: You also want to make sure in that same vein

[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_00]: that you know whether you're playing at a place that lets you yell bingo

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_00]: after the fact.

[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I have to tell you, I can't stand this.

[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_00]: This makes me crazy.

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_00]: But they absolutely do this in places in Vegas.

[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think there are other places that do it, too.

[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_00]: And what I'm talking about is there are places that let you yell bingo.

[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_00]: And when?

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Even after the next number is called.

[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_00]: OK, so for most bingo players, we're aware of the fact that if you have

[00:12:18] [SPEAKER_00]: your bingo on, say, B12 and before you can yell bingo,

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_00]: they yell G60, you've lost your bingo.

[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_00]: OK, you have the time between when they say your number

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_00]: and when they call the next number to yell your bingo.

[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_00]: But there are some places that they could say five numbers.

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_00]: They could say the whole yard.

[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't notice your bingo until they've gone through

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_00]: just a ton of numbers, you still win, which again, I absolutely cannot stand.

[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the worst thing in the world.

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_00]: It's just it's just not fair.

[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_00]: You need to do that.

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, sometimes it would help me just the other day.

[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I almost lost a bingo, which, as you know, we call sleeping.

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_00]: So I almost slept a bingo and I was happy I didn't.

[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_00]: But I definitely was aware of the fact that if I didn't yell as fast

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_00]: as I could before they start it, by the way, it's not even saying the next number.

[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_00]: It's before they start to say the next number.

[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I would have lost that bingo, which is, by the way, also happened

[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_00]: to have been on a cashball, so I would have been sick.

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_00]: So one of the dos that I want to mention is that if you've got a pack,

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_00]: whether it's a four pack or six pack or a nine pack,

[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm a big advocate of people doing things to mark their individual boxes

[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_00]: when they know they've had whatever the pattern was or whatever you needed

[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_00]: to form a bingo for that particular square.

[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_00]: OK, so if you're playing a game that's like four card crazy or four card

[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_00]: jamboree or four card six pack, whatever it is that you're playing

[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and you have a set number of squares that you need to get,

[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I am again a big advocate of making sure that you have some way to indicate

[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_00]: that you don't need that square anymore.

[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, some people just do like a line

[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_00]: or some people just do like a daub or something.

[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_00]: But I really think it helps to have something visual that you can cover it.

[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_00]: And trust me, there's a lot of things out there.

[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_00]: When I first started playing bingo,

[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I used to use playing cards, just regular everyday playing cards,

[00:14:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and I would just cover whatever that square was.

[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_00]: So I know I didn't need that.

[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_00]: And now I use little gold chips

[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_00]: that I have or other things that people have given me.

[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_00]: And there are a ton of people, like I said, out there who sell these things

[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_00]: that you can get to cover it.

[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_00]: And the reason I say this is that sometimes you don't see like a little daub

[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_00]: or something, you don't realize it.

[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And you might need four or something or three or something.

[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_00]: And you don't realize that you don't have it.

[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_00]: It's just so much easier to realize

[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_00]: that you have the amount that you need by the fact that you've covered up

[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_00]: your square. So I'm a big fan of using something to cover that up.

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_00]: So you can visually do that, particularly if you're playing a lot of packs.

[00:14:54] [SPEAKER_00]: If you've got all these packs like Carla, Carla out there with their like

[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_00]: 82 packs, you don't have to worry about whether you daub something.

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_00]: You can see because you've got all these little indicators on top of the square.

[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, you have the amount that you need.

[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_00]: And please, please do yourself a favor.

[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_00]: If you have any time at all, if they're calling for verifying

[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_00]: something else or whatever, any kind of pause, please be sure to always

[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_00]: check your numbers because there's sometimes when you're looking

[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_00]: for a pattern and you're so busy concentrating on a particular number.

[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, absolutely has happened to me.

[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_00]: And I just saw it happen to somebody else.

[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_00]: You're so busy realizing that in this square over here, you just need,

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, in 32 to give you your bingo.

[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_00]: But you forget in all that time

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_00]: that they've been calling numbers that you've formed another area where you

[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_00]: have the possibility. So always keep a lookout because it's like, oh,

[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I thought I was going to get bingo on this in 32.

[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_00]: But if I paid attention, I realize I also only needed G 56.

[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_00]: And then it's like, oh, son of a gun, they call G 56.

[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_00]: But if you're not paying attention, you don't realize that people

[00:16:01] [SPEAKER_00]: absolutely get fixated sometimes on just one particular number

[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_00]: that they've seen that they know that they need.

[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_00]: And they miss the opportunity that they have for some other number.

[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_00]: But also keep an eye out on that, because sometimes just in general,

[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_00]: you might miss a number.

[00:16:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I've had that one time I had a game where it was

[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_00]: a wild number and the wild number was eight.

[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_00]: And you go through and you think you're marking all your eight.

[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_00]: You think you're marking whatever that wild number is,

[00:16:29] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, all the numbers ending with it.

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And you think you have it and then you realize you've missed something.

[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_00]: And I did that one time and I missed a bingo because, boom,

[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_00]: the easiest number of all, the freaking wild number.

[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And I missed it on one card.

[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And that was the car that actually had a bingo on it.

[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_00]: And therefore I lost.

[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_00]: So you want to take the time when you're doing stuff and scanning just

[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_00]: to make sure go back and check to make sure there's no numbers

[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_00]: that you've lost, because sometimes you absolutely get so boggled down,

[00:16:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I guess is the word.

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it's boggled down, but you just get distracted by other stuff.

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And it really is incredibly easy not to see a number

[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_00]: that's right out there in front of your face.

[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Another thing you want to do is you want to check your pool tabs.

[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_00]: OK, I know this is something that's relatively new.

[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_00]: We didn't have this, what, 20 years ago or whatever.

[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_00]: But we all know that we play a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot

[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_00]: of pool tabs these days and strips as well.

[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_00]: But in particular right now, something that I've seen happen

[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's been happening a lot lately is people having a winning ticket

[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_00]: and accidentally throwing it away.

[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's primarily a whole ticket because what's become really popular

[00:17:38] [SPEAKER_00]: are you've got your spare change, you've got your leftovers,

[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_00]: you've got your banana splits, you've got the piece of the pie

[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_00]: or rest of the pie, whatever that is.

[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_00]: But there are a lot of these pool tabs out there right now

[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_00]: that are super popular where there's two parts.

[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, the one part is where you get the hold,

[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_00]: where it says that you get the rest of the pie,

[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_00]: where it says you get the spare change,

[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_00]: where it says you get the leftovers.

[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And then there's the other part where you get the numbers

[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's whoever wins that number.

[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And then depending on how much they win determines

[00:18:08] [SPEAKER_00]: whoever has the whole ticket, how much they win.

[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, what I've seen lately are people

[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_00]: accidentally throwing away the whole ticket.

[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, come on people,

[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_00]: if you get something that looks a little different

[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_00]: than what everybody else has,

[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_00]: if you're not sure what it is, please, please, please, please, please,

[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_00]: please ask a question.

[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Do not throw this stuff away.

[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Set it aside so you can have a chance to ask the question.

[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Because I'm telling you, this has happened like,

[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_00]: what, three or four or five times in the last month or so

[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_00]: where they've had people going, OK, who's got the hold?

[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Who's got the hold?

[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_00]: And then having to say, well,

[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_00]: if you don't claim the hold by such and such

[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and then people are losing money.

[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_00]: That's too much money, people.

[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Too much money.

[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I think the least amount that I've seen for those is like $300.

[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Come on. And it goes up to a thousand dollars.

[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I've seen the hold for, what is it, spare change?

[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_00]: It's got a hold that goes up to the possibility of a thousand dollars.

[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_00]: And people are, no, no, you need to pay attention.

[00:19:08] [SPEAKER_00]: You need to hold on these things.

[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't know, please ask questions.

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's my other thing again, too, like I said,

[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_00]: please don't go late.

[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Get there as early as you can.

[00:19:19] [SPEAKER_00]: If you're going to a new place or if you haven't been there at all

[00:19:21] [SPEAKER_00]: and wherever you are, please, if you're not sure,

[00:19:24] [SPEAKER_00]: ask as many questions as you can, preferably before the game gets started.

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_00]: But you want to make sure that you have a full understanding of what's

[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_00]: going on because you don't want to miss your bingo.

[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Last but not least, I want to talk about the fact that you want

[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_00]: to check around if you're going to a place.

[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_00]: What's very common is tipping.

[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, nobody has to tip.

[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_00]: OK, nobody's going to make you tip.

[00:19:49] [SPEAKER_00]: But you want to make sure that you've asked what is the custom there?

[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_00]: How does tipping go?

[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_00]: There are some places I know that won't let you tip,

[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_00]: but you want to make sure that you know what the custom is so you can do

[00:20:00] [SPEAKER_00]: what is appropriate and, you know, spread the love people.

[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_00]: That's what we're talking about.

[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Spread the love.

[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, there are a lot more things that I'm sure that can be

[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_00]: touched upon and maybe some of you out there can email me or whatever and let me

[00:20:16] [SPEAKER_00]: know what your thoughts are.

[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_00]: But these are just some of the things that I think that people should keep

[00:20:20] [SPEAKER_00]: in mind when they're going to go play bingo.

[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_00]: All right. So let me know if you agree or don't agree with some of them or if

[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_00]: you have any things that you think should be added to these lists.

[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_00]: OK, anyway, for now, I'd like to thank you so much for listening

[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_00]: to this week's episode of The Broke Bingo Addict.

[00:20:35] [SPEAKER_00]: And as always, I hope you'll come listen to the next one.

[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_00]: In the meantime, take care. Thanks.
